Shophouses performed by 7-12 year-old children.

The aim of this workshop is to introduce children to architecture.

In a tutorial-like creative setting, children will find out about architecture in a playful way. I will guide them in their reflections so that they mature their own projects.

The main activity will be the construction of a model of a Haussmann building and their own architecture project. Many other complementary activities will be offered to enrich this initiation.

We will particularity focus on Paris and the city. The combination of the past and the contempo- rary will allow children to understand the new challenges facing architects in terms of heritage. Each child will design their own project with the aim of integrating the historical Haussmann building and their own.

Note that the projects will not necessarily be realistic because it is especially the process of imagination that is important in this exercise. Children can have fun building new homes. They will invent atypical profiles of inhabitants and imagine how they can live differently.

We will follow the classic steps taken by architects.
1- Understanding of the environment.
2- Project sketches.
3- Project implementation (model).

Along with the construction of the model, we will explore several other aspects related to architecture.

Namely, the explanation of the profession of architect, its role and its missions, the presentation of certain major projects in the world, the discovery of references combining ancient and contemporary as well as other complementary workshops. We will do manual workshops but will also tackle the theory.

We will also draw because drawing is one of the architect’s communication mediums. We will make sketches, plans and drawings of facades.

Age will determine how deep each stage is. The goal is to follow the real stages of setting up an architectural project.

We will not be using a computer, everything will be done manually. The material will be provided.
